On 18 December 2017, the Assembly of Contributors of the International Ignalina Decommissioning Support Fund (IIDSF) evaluated progress of Decommissioning Projects of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (Ignalina NPP) and discussed other important issues related to the implementation of key projects financed by the IIDSF.
Members of the Assembly expressed their appreciation of the main achievements and progress made during the recent period, namely: Ignalina NPP continues loading of spent fuel to casks and their transportation for storage to the Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility (B1 Project, based on the data gained on 20th of December 2017, 38 casks loaded with spent fuel are already placed for storage); Ignalina NPP continues hot trials (trials with radioactive waste) of one of the most important facilities for solid radioactive waste management and storage (SWMSF, B2/3/4 Project); the State Nuclear Energy Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) has issued the license to construct and operate the Near Surface Repository for Low and Intermediate Level Short-lived Radioactive Waste (B25 Project); Ignalina NPP continues proactive equipment dismantling.
The European Commission and contributors appreciated the progress achieved in the implementation of Ignalina NPP decommissioning projects and highlighted the necessity to maintain the work pace and continue successful implementation of INPP decommissioning projects.
