Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant Board to be chaired by Dr Jurgita Radzevičė

On 20 May, the first meeting of the newly appointed Board of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) elected the Chairperson of the Board. Dr. Jurgita Radzevičė, a strategic management professional and independent member, has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Board, continuing her second term of office.

"My main motivation is to help manage one of the country's most important strategic projects, which is transforming from a nuclear power plant into a platform for new opportunities. The decommissioning of the Ignalina NPP needs to be seen as a beginning, not an end. Today it is no longer a power plant, but a project management centre. Decommissioning is just a phase, which seems to be very extended in time, but is not limitless. Our goal is to implement projects as efficiently as possible while managing the resources allocated to them, but at the same time to become a centre of excellence for the next generation, to accumulate unique project management experience, to create future partnerships with science, to take leadership and make innovative decisions," says J. Radzevičė.

According to J. Radzevičė, the Board, which will continue in its second term with almost the same composition, is already well acquainted with the specificities of the INPP, which will allow it to ensure quick decisions and provide strong support to the management.

The new term of the Ignalina NPP Board continues with three members of the previous Board: Jurgita Radzevičė, Laimonas Belickas, Patricija Ceiko and a fourth new member, Karolis Sankovski.

According to Linas Baužys, Director General of the INPP, the dismantling of the nuclear facility and the management of radioactive waste are accompanied by a number of complex projects, the successful management of which requires a high level of professionalism. "We are delighted to continue working with the Board, whose expertise in managing different projects allows us to more effectively address the challenges, adapt best practices and create new and unique experiences," notes Mr L. Baužys.

The new Ignalina NPP Board was approved by the Minister of Energy Dainius Kreivys on 22 April for a four-year term of office. The Board consists of 4 members: 3 independent members and 1 representative of the Ministry of Energy. The term of office of the Board members is 4 years. J. Radzevičė, CEO of UAB SBA Home, L. Belickas, CEO of UAB Orion Leasing, Chairman of the Board of Turto bankas, K. Sankovski, Founder and CEO of Strategy and Infrastructure Business Consulting Company. The Ministry of Energy is represented by Ms P. Ceiko, Advisor to the Nuclear Energy Policy Group.

Today, one of the INPP's main objectives is to implement the immediate dismantling of the plant without leaving future generations with an unreasonable burden of managing radioactive waste. The company's mission is to create a clean environment by sustainably managing the legacy of nuclear activities. After the final operation and decommissioning of the plant, it is planned to build and operate a deep geological repository until 2079, during which time it will establish itself as an advanced next-generation company and successfully develop its activities further.
