On 3rd of August 2018 SE Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (Ignalina NPP) announced an open tender for the procurement of Near Surface Repository for Low and Intermediate Level Short-Lived Radioactive Waste (project B25) technical supervision and FIDIC engineer services.
The main objective of B25 Project is to design and construct Near Surface Repository for Low and Intermediate Level Short-Lived Radioactive Waste to be used for final disposal of waste of the referred radioactivity level. The repository, its protective areas and auxiliary structures required for operation will occupy the area of about 45 hectares. Design of the Landfill facility foresees construction of three groups of vaults (12 vaults per group) and all required infrastructure. The first and the second groups (24 vaults in total) as well as infrastructure would be constructed during the first construction stage, meanwhile the decision regarding the construction of the third group of vaults will be made at the INPP decommissioning stage and would depend on the actual needs of INPP. The repository will be constructed near the existing facilities of Ignalina NPP and will be used for waste disposal.
Project B25 is financed under the Ignalina Programme of the European Union.
