November 4-6, Audrius Kamienas, Director General of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) and Sergej Krutovcov, Director of the Decommissioning Department, made a working visit to Belgium organized by the Belgian Flemish Trade and Investment Representation in Vilnius.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss the challenges of decommissioning nuclear reactors and to share existing knowledge and experience in implementing radioactive waste management projects.
The INPP delegation met with representatives of the Belgian Ministry of Economy, visited the Belgian Nuclear Research Center SCK, located in the city of Mol, and the “Belgoprocess” Visitor Center, which specializes in radioactive waste management.
During the visit, INPP representatives participated in a meeting with representatives of Belgian companies with the highest level of competence and experience in the field of decommissioning. Companies such as Engie, Tractebel, Tecnubel, Westinghouse, SCK and others have presented their ongoing dismantling projects.
During the meeting, the INPP representatives presented the INPP decommissioning project and future challenges. It is hoped that this type of meetings and exchange of experience between INPP and Belgian specialists will become a good practice for sharing future knowledge in nuclear decommissioning projects.
