The meetings of the Supervisory Committee of the Ignalina Programme took place

On March 20-21 at State Enterprise Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) and on March 22 in Vilnius, meetings of the Supervisory Committee of the Ignalina Programme and technical visits were held to assess the progress of the decommissioning process of INPP, the efficiency of the planning and management of funds.

Representatives of the European Commission, the Ministry of Energy, the Central Project Management Agency, the European Bank for Development and Reconstruction, the State Nuclear Energy Safety Inspectorate and Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant participated in the meetings.

The issues of decommissioning management improvement and efficiency were discussed, the progress and achievements of implementation of the main INPP decommissioning projects were presented at the meetings.

The INPP decommissioning works were especially highly evaluated: last year the Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility (project B1) was successfully put into operation, which already has 48 containers of spent nuclear fuel, and in February this year, earlier than planned, the unloading of nuclear fuel from the second reactor was completed. During the meeting, one of the most important closing decommissioning works was discussed - preparation for the dismantling of reactors.

Participants of the Ignalina Program Supervisory Committee visited the plant itself, where they got acquainted with the scope of the dismantling works carried out and the results of their execution, as well as visited the Solid Waste Retrieval Facility (B2) and the Solid Waste Management and Storage Facilities (B3 / 4) where the hot tests are taking place at the moment.

The Ignalina Programme is a financial instrument of the European Union dedicated to decommissioning Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and its related measures in support of the Lithuanian energy sector.
