On 19-23 of November the State Enterprise Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (Ignalina NPP) hosted a seminar on the Initial radiological characterisation of radioactive waste. Participants of the Seminar from eight countries and independent experts invited by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) discussed essential issues related to waste radiological characterisation, further management and placement of radioactive waste to repositories, as well as paid exclusive attention to legal regulation of this important activities aspects, applicable standards and legal acts. Participants of the Seminar compared solid radioactive waste processing and characterisation methods applicable at different countries, shared an extensive experience accumulated in the course of this complicated process.
IAEA seminars hosted by Ignalina NPP are the proper mean to be used by concerned parties in order to share experience and accumulated knowledge by discovering new opportunities for cooperation, and to clear up the potential challenges and get answers to the conceivable questions in active discussions.
