This week, from 26 to 29 February, the enterprise hosted an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expert mission on the removal of radiological controls at nuclear facilities and sites.
The mission aimed to share experiences and best practices, discuss legal, regulatory, technical, and other aspects related to the decommissioning of radioactive materials and sites (both unconditional and conditional), and learn from the experiences of other countries in this field.
The expert mission was attended by IAEA experts from Austria, Slovakia and Germany, representatives of VATESI and INPP specialists.
The team of experts was composed of the IAEA Technical Officer, Tetiana Kilochytska, as well as experts from Germany, Stefan Thierfeldt, and Slovakia, Tomas Hrnčíř. Throughout the mission, they were briefed on the progress of the dismantling projects, the demolition work being carried out at the INPP site, and the practices used to decontrol radioactive materials. The presentation and sharing of experience was followed by an analysis of the practice of conditional and unconditional deregulation of materials, structures, and objects. This analysis took into account the experience gained from the implementation of nuclear decommissioning projects in Germany and Slovakia.
The expert mission was organised in the framework of the activities foreseen under the IAEA Technical Cooperation Project 2022-2025 LIT9020 "Enhancing National Capabilities for Decommissioning and Radioactive Waste Management, Safety Assessment, Oversight, Licensing and Emergency Preparedness".
