General information about the project
According to the Final INPP Decommissioning Plan and the INPP Decommissioning Megaproject Schedule, the main part of the technological equipment of Block D2 has been decommissioned and is being insulated. These include deaerators, deaerator transfer coolers and expanders, power supply filters, BRU-K, BRU-D, fresh steam, drinking water, technical water supply and other piping systems, as well as part of power supply and KMP and A system equipment and cables. This equipment will not be operated at a later date and will be dismantled, decontaminated and removed for 101/2 buildings.
In order to carry out the dismantling and decontamination of the part of the technological equipment contaminated with radionuclides of Block D2, the В9-7 (2) project documents are being prepared, as VATESI permission is required to carry out these processes. The dismantling of uncontaminated insulated equipment is carried out according to individual modifications and taking into account its ongoing decommissioning and isolation.
Project 2214 “Block D2 Equipment Dismantling and Decontamination” consists of preparation of В9-7 (2) project documents, dismantling and decontamination of isolated radioactively contaminated equipment, as well as dismantling of relatively uncontaminated equipment according to separate modifications.
According to the project, the dismantling of the main part of the D2 block contaminated with radionuclides is planned for 2019-2023.
Project goal and objectives
The aim of this project is safe and cost-effective dismantling of the D2 block’s isolated process equipment and initial treatment of the dismantling waste.
Project objectives
Project scope
Project 2214 "Block D2 Equipment Dismantling and Decontamination" consists of:
The set of project documents consists of:
Technological project, Safety Analysis Report, Environmental Impact Assessment Report are documents that are coordinated with state institutions - VATESI, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Health. In accordance with these documents, a permit for dismantling and decontamination of D2 block equipment is issued. Under the Technological Project, the preparation of Work Project procedures, according to which dismantling and decontamination works are performed, is being carried out.
The set of project documents is being prepared by INPP staff. The project is financed from the budget of the Republic of Lithuania and EU funds administered by the Central project management agency.

On 2017 November 29 Technological project and Safety analysis report were submitted to VATESI for approval.
On 2018 March 2, VATESI sent comments, which were removed by 2018 April 13.
On 2018 May 30 updated technological project and Dismantling and Decontamination Safety Analysis Report submitted to VATESI and on 2018 July 5 were agreed.
The nuclide vector of the block D2 equipment was prepared in 2017 June and on 2017 August 11 agreed with VATESI.
In 2017 September Coordination of the technological project and the Safety Analysis Report at INPP and submission of these documents to VATESI.
Uncontaminated radionuclide-insulated equipment according to individual modifications has been carried out since 2011 October 7. Until the end of 2018 June 275 tons of equipment were dismantled.
The main preparatory work began in the fourth quarter of 2017. They were completed in September 2018. First, the thermal insulation was removed, openings were cut in the walls, and elevators were installed to transport waste to unit G-2.
It was planned that, in accordance with the project, the main equipment on the block D2 will be dismantled from 2019 May 20 to 2023 September 29, new dismantling dates: from 2018 July 6 to 2022 December 19.
Currently, dating from 2011 August 25, 60.3% of the equipment (2,293,264 tons) was dismantled. Primary processing of dismantling waste - 33.8%. 7.72 tons of equipment will be reused. The coefficient of budget efficiency (CPI) is - 0.93 The coefficient of time efficiency (CPI) is - 0.96.
